ph3PhD Research Fellow in Plant Molecular Biology /h3 pPosition as PhD Research Fellow in plant molecular biology available at CEES, Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo.br/The fellowship period is three years. /p pA fourth year maybe considered and it will involve 25 percent of other career-promoting work. Other career-promoting work may consist of teaching, supervision, and/or research assistance. This is dependent upon the qualification of the applicant and the current needs of the department. /p pStarting date no later than October 1, 2026. /p pNo one can be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo. /p pPlace of work is CEES, Department of Biosciences, at Blindern, Oslo. /p pThe PhD will be hired on the project "Tuning heat-shock memory in plants" funded by the University of Oslo, which is a collaboration between two projects: The REPEAT project ("The functional and evolutionary importance of simple repeats in the genome"), led by Professor Kjetill S Jakobsen and Professor Melinka Butenko, and HotSpot ("Stress-induced mutations in evolution"), which is a recently funded NFR project led by William Reinar. /p pThe PhD project will investigate molecular mechanisms that regulate heat stress memory, which is a vital mechanism for plant resilience. The aim is to understand the role of naturally occurring short tandem repeat polymorphisms in regulatory regions of heat stress memory genes, and the candidate will apply both wet lab molecular biology, genome editing, trait phenotyping, imaging/microscopy, and computational methods to meet this aim. /p pThe project aims to advance the mechanistic understanding of heat stress memory and provide a framework for targeted tuning of this mechanism. The project provides an excellent opportunity for the candidate to conduct high-impact research facilitating pursuits of further academic and/or commercial ambitions within plant sciences after project completion. /p pThe Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials. /p pbRequired qualifications: /b /p ul liMaster’s degree or equivalent in molecular biology, biology, cell biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, ecology and evolution, or related fields /li liExperience with molecular work in Arabidopsis thaliana or other plants /li liDocumented applied skills in molecular biology techniques (cloning, transformation) /li liDocumented applied skills in plant cell imaging /li liDocumented training in Python and/or R /li liForeign completed degree (M.Sc.-level) corresponding to a minimum of four years in the Norwegian educational system /li liFluent oral and written communication skills in English /li /ul pCandidates without a master’s degree have until bJune 30, 2026 /b to complete the final exam. /p pbDesired qualifications: /b /p ul liExperience with genome editing in a plant system /li liSolid knowledge of gene regulation in plants /li liStrong interest in ecology and evolution /li liExperience in plant stress-trials and plant phenotyping /li /ul pbLanguage requirement: /b /p ul liGood oral and written communication skills in English /li /ul pbGrade requirements: /bbr/The norm is as follows: /p ul liThe average grade point for courses included in the Bachelor’s degree must be C or better in the Norwegian educational system /li liThe average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system /li liThe Master’s thesis must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system /li /ul pAll candidates and projects will have to undergo a check versus national export, sanctions and security regulations.
